Scale
Welcome to the AHA’s Scale Helicopter page
Scale helicopters have always been a favourite in the RC world, combining realistic looks with rewarding flying. In fact, the very first commercially available RC helicopter was a scale model — the Huey Cobra, introduced by Dieter Schluter in 1970.
While early scale models took time and patience to build and fly, the arrival of “pod and boom” helicopters made it easier for pilots to learn while working towards their own scale masterpiece. Today, scale flying remains one of the most satisfying parts of the hobby.
Scale Competition Rules
Most scale helicopter pilots enjoy the building, flying and friendship that goes side by side with the hobby, but a few pilots want to show off their skills in a more competitive environment. If you are one of these pilots, the new scale rules can be found here, There are two classes, one is for 'hang on fuselage' style helicopters and does not require documentation, the other is for the more involved model which requires photos and documentation of the full size in order to assist the judges. Please read through them, drop me a message if you are interested, and get some practice in before the Scale Nats later in the year. If don't want to compete, we are always looking to expand our pool of judges, timekeepers, flight line assistants etc, so you can get involved in a number of ways
